Ελάτε αυτή την Παρασκευή στον Καφενέ μας για ένα επιστημονικό πείραμα: Μπορεί η grunge μουσική (και γενικά 90's Rock) να βοηθήσει στην αποφόρτιση απο την πίεση της εβδομάδας ή απαιτείται και η προσθήκη ενός βότκα μαρτίνι;

For the sixth consecutive year, Syspirosi Atakton, an anarchist, anti-authoritarian, anti-oppressive group rooted in Nicosia organises the Genders and Power festival. This year’s festival moves away from the format of the previous years, diverges from the more theoretical interventions and leaves room for more interactive formats of discussions and presentations. Thematically, this year the festival focuses on pornography, queer identities through an ethnographic documentary and artistic / performative approaches around issues that arise from women experiences. Genders and Power festival neither essentializes nor naturalises identities or experiences of any kind. It rather seeks to signalize, understand and deconstruct various societal systemic power relations in order to resist them; and here lies its political importance. Accountability, situatedness, and self-reflexivity are all really important elements of our festival’s approach as it seeks to denormalize and delegitimize power differentials and categories through engaging discussions, interactive performances, and parties with politics. Join us!

About Kaymakkin

Kaymakκιν, located in the old neighbourhood of Kaymakli*, is an attempt to create a common space, open to individuals and groups aiming for political, social, and cultural intervention. It is the outcome of the realisation of the need for a space where we can spread and exchange ideas, form networks and interact in Nicosia. It is a self-managed space, and its operation relies on self-organisation and collective action. Kaymakκιν is managed by an assembly of individuals and collectives through direct democratic and horizontal organisational structures and consensus decision-making processes. Against the dominant rationale of hierarchy and the exercise of power “from above”, against capitalism and neoliberalism, we organize outside a commercial framework and the logic of profit. read more...

This Week at Kaymakkin: Mission Blue screening, chocolate kahvene and more!

This Week at Kaymakkin: Mission Blue screening, chocolate kahvene and more! Vegan kitchen also on saturday

This week at Social Space Kaymakkin

Monday 29th/October to Sunday 4th/November

Ecopolis Screening: Mission Blue — WEDNESDAY 27th of June @ 20:00

Title: Ecopolis Screening: Mission Blue
When: Wednesday 31/10, 19:00
Where: Social Space Kaymakkin
Picture: https://filmsfortheearth.org/storage/app...n-blue.jpg

Description:
The Ecopolis Collective is back and invites you to a documentary screening at the social space Kaymakkin.

Every last Wednesday of the month there will be a screening of a film or documentary about ecology and environmental, conservational and animal issues as well as struggles of local communities to fight back against the countless attacks on the ecosystems of the planet, as well as of the small island of Cyprus.

The first screening will be "Mission Blue":

More than four years in the making, MISSION BLUE is legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle’s eye-opening wake-up call to save the ocean. Directed by Fisher Stevens (“The Cove”) and Robert Nixon (“Gorillas in the Mist”), the film follows Dr. Earle on her global quest to protect the ocean -- and the extraordinary marine life that call it home -- from the powerful forces of pollution, overfishing and climate change. The film also sheds light on Sylvia’s remarkable personal story and professional journey, from her earliest memories exploring the ocean as a young girl to her days leading daring undersea missions, offering insight on the sacrifices, difficulties and tough choices she faced along the way.

As a witness to oceanic and marine life change over the past 60 years, Sylvia is a steadfast warrior, leading the charge to restore the ocean to health before it’s too late. And MISSION BLUE is her warning call.

As Sylvia says: “No ocean; no life. No ocean; no us.”

Trailer: https://mission-blue.org/the-film/

Ecopolis collective aims to put forth the claim to the city as a Common, as a field of resistance to the social and environmental endeavors of neoliberalism. We want to create the conditions in which the city is experienced as a point of reference and socialization, action and experimentation, rather than as a glossy real estate commodity bought and sold according to the laws of the market and current trends.

Open mic night FRIDAY 8th of June @ 20:00

As the summer sun shies away in the late afternoon, Kaymakki’s Open mic is hosting a cool evening in the beats of the word and the crackling ice of mojitos. We are looking for writers, performers and tricksters, to gather and share our performative readings of our favourite writers yet also, the intimate skin of our intricacies in our own work. How does -under 5 minutes- sound?

*Kaymakki is a social space so, be funny, be anal, be silent, be surprising, be punk, be anything, just not sexist, nor homophobic or racist. Some shit gotta be pruned, to let the rest bloom.

This week at kaymakkin: Join us for a Guy Debord's film on wednesday

This week at kaymakkin: Join us for a Guy Debord's film on wednesday And a party on friday night!

This week at Social Space Kaymakkin

Monday 21st/May to Sunday 27th/May

Film screening:  We Spin Around the Night Consumed by the Fire | In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni (1978) — WEDNESDAY 23rd of May @ 20:00

The social space will open at 19:30. The movie will start at 20:00
Language: French audio, English subtitles
Duration: 105 minutes

Description:

Guy Debord (1931-1994) was the most influential figure in the Situationist International, the notorious subversive group that played a key role in provoking the May 1968 revolt in France.
In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni (1978, 105 minutes) is Debord’s sixth and final film. The title is a Latin palindrome meaning “We turn in the night, consumed by fire.” The film is at once an autobiographical reflection and a scathing denunciation of the ever-increasing moral and material degradation of modern capitalist society. Many people consider it Debord’s masterpiece. All of his films are brilliant in their diverse ways, but in this astonishing summation of his life and work he really pulls out all the stops. As he also did with Debord’s earlier film, The Society of the Spectacle, filmmaker Konrad Steiner has taken the original French film and produced an English overdubbed version, using Ken Knabb’s translation as interpreted on the sound track by artist/scholar Dore Bowen. This version enables viewers to better appreciate the complex interplay between montage, image, and language that make up Debord’s reflections on his life and his era — and on the later era that he so accurately saw coming, the bizarre era that we now find ourselves in and are trying to find our way out of.

This week at kaymakkin: Join us for a screening of una mujer fantastica Vegan spanish kitchen on sunday!

This week at Social Space Kaymakkin

Monday 7th/May to Sunday 13th/May

Screening: Una mujer fantastica — WEDNESDAY 9th of May @ 20:00

A fantastic woman (Spanish: Una mujer fantástica)

A Fantastic Woman (Spanish: Una mujer fantástica) is a 2017 Chilean drama film. Marina, a trans woman, is a singer and waitress. She has just moved in with her lover, Orlando. One night, Orlando wakes up feeling very unwell. Unable to stand up, he collapses and falls down a staircase. Marina rushes him to a hospital, but Orlando dies, apparently from a brain aneurysm. Marina is viewed with suspicion both by the doctors and Orlando's family. A detective comes to the restaurant where Marina works, and asks Marina questions suggesting that Orlando's death had resulted from a physical altercation between the two of them. Meanwhile, Orlando's ex-wife and Orlando's son forbids Marina from attending the wake or the funeral. Marina struggles for the right to be herself in spite of the allegations. To make matters worse, the exclusions might have more to do with her identity rather than the death of Orlando.

Directed by: Sebastián Lelio

Language: Spanish, Subtitles: English

Kaymakkin opens at 20.00. Screening begins at 20.30

This week at kaymakkin Join us for yoga and (big) friday kahvene

This week at Social Space Kaymakkin

Monday 2nd/April to Sunday 9th/April

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga class — MONDAY 2nd of April @ 18:30
